Hello Everyone! 👋
Another busy month over, which means another Broomfield Care Newsletter! We’ve got plenty to share with you- getting ready for winter, the extra mile award and what our staff have been up to this month!
‼️ A Message from Charlotte! Winter Readiness ❄️
Hi Everyone!
As winter approaches, I know we’ve all received the emails, text messages and phone calls reminding us to book in our COVID-19 vaccinations and Flu Jabs. As the heating goes on and colds/viruses rear their heads during the latter stages of this year, we would like to keep you all as safe as possible.
We have seen floating on social media that Worcestershire NHS trusts have reinstated mask wearing for all appointments throughout their hospitals for the time being as they have seen a spike in COVID-19 cases. Whilst we want to keep people safe we also do understand that since relaxing our mask wearing policy people have enjoyed seeing a smile every day from our staff and to reinstate this as mandatory in every visit of ours isn’t something I’m particularly fond of!
However, I would like to encourage all staff and any of our service users should they wish to, to wear a mask if they feel unwell or under the weather, all staff have a supply with them and we have plenty of PPE supplies in office to support this during the winter months, and if anyone has any particular desire/request for this to be mandatory in their visits – please do get in touch with the office and we will make this happen.
Wishing everyone all the best and good health!
‼️ Pension Credit and Financial Support:
We also want to make everyone aware of the various forms of financial support people of State Pension age (66+) may be eligible for.
As you will be aware, the Winter Fuel Payment has become means tested and one of the significant indicators of whether you are still eligible is if you are on Pension Credit. So, if you think yourself or a loved one may be eligible for the latter, it is imperative that you check and apply. It is estimated that up to 880,000 households are missing out on Pension Credit, which is worth on average £3,900 per year, as well as additional benefits like help with paying Council Tax and a free TV licence.
In addition to pension credit, you may be eligible for Cold Weather Payments and/or the Warm Home Discount Scheme. You can find all the information about these schemes on the Gov.uk website.
Alternatively, you could get in contact with Age UK, who have their own scheme, called the ‘Warm Homes Programme‘ in which you can have a free one-to-one session with a member of their team to discuss all the different schemes available and how to apply. As mentioned on their website, “In 2023/24, our benefit entitlement sessions identified over £59 million of unclaimed benefits. For each older person who received support through the Warm Homes programme, that was an average of £4,200 per year.”
🎄Christmas Carol Service at the Broomfield Care Office 🎄

The Extra Mile Award Winner 🌟
<<<Just as a reminder, last Month’s winner of the Extra Mile Award was…Teresa!
⭐The September Winner is…Romy!
Our Admin Assistant and Support Worker, Romy, has been chosen as the extra mile award winner for the last month, as we’ve had some really good feedback about her from our clients. Romy has been working at Broomfield Care for just under a year now, and is a great addition to the team- she is meticulous in both her roles, and especially attentive towards our clients.
‘One of our clients accepted help from her on Monday, which is a real surprise as she doesn’t often let us help her; another client said Romy is cheerful and lovely to talk to on the telephone, and another has described Romy as “a pleasure to have and a lovely young lady, friendly and chatty”. She has also picked up extra calls recently and has us helped out.”‘
Well done Romy!

💧JELLY DROPS:
Jelly Drops are award-winning sweets designed to boost hydration. They’re 95% water, sugar free & vegan with added electrolytes & vitamins with a fantastic solid, but smooth, texture.
They are well-loved by many, but are especially beneficial to those with dementia and are struggling with their liquid intake, due to issues such as the inability to hold cups or not equating thirst with drinking.
We, at Broomfield Care, think Jelly Drops are an amazing product and can help you purchase the product at a discounted rate! Just contact the office or speak to one of our support workers, so that you can receive a special code to get your order cheaper.
Goodbye!🙋♀️
That’s all for this month! Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter- it was a long one this month!
Once again, well done to Romy for being an absolute star and going the extra mile! ✨
