It’s More Than Just The Individual…

Stan and Eileen’s Story:

At Broomfield Care, we believe that every individual deserves to be supported with dignity, compassion and respect, particularly during life’s most challenging and important moments.

We had the privilege of supporting Mr Stanley Phelps and his family when his health began to decline. Stan’s wish was to remain at home, surrounded by the familiarity and comfort of the place he loved. Working closely with Stan and his family, our team provided compassionate, person-centred care tailored to his individual needs and preferences.

The family received reassurance from knowing that the Broomfield Care team was there to provide not only practical support, but also kindness, understanding and a friendly face during a difficult time. Stan passed away peacefully at home, in the place he had chosen, surrounded by those who loved him.

“If you need home care and are lucky enough to use Broomfield, you should consider yourself extremely fortunate. From the first contact, they have been the most warm hearted , professional and thoughtful team I have ever encountered. Broomfield looked after my lovely father-in-law until he passed away recently. Dad looked forward to their visits, and they all became like family, we couldn’t have asked for more.”

Eileen, stan and family

Following Stan’s passing, it was a privilege to be approached by the family once again when his wife, Eileen, required support following a short stay in hospital. Our relationship with Eileen had been built over many years, and she had been the backbone of support for Stan at home, always by his side and playing such an important role in helping him to remain in the place he loved.

When the time came for Eileen to need a little support herself, we jumped at the opportunity to see her again. After all those years, it felt less like supporting a former Service User and more like catching up with an old friend. It was truly lovely to reconnect with her, to hear her stories and to once again be welcomed into her life. Our existing relationship with Eileen and her family meant we were able to provide continuity and reassurance during another significant period of transition.

Eileen was supported with the same compassion, dignity and respect that had been at the heart of Stan’s care. This gave the family time and space to prepare for her eventual move to Bristol to be closer to her loved ones.

Supporting both Stan and Eileen, and getting to know their family, was a true privilege for Broomfield Care. Their story demonstrates the importance of continuity, compassion and meaningful relationships in home care. For us, person-centred care is about more than meeting someone’s needs; it is about supporting the whole family, preserving dignity and being there when it matters most.

“Broomfield came to the rescue again taking care of mum, they were our first choice after the outstanding service they gave dad when they cared for him until he passed peacefully at home thanks to their amazing care and dedication. Mum was needing care at home after a stay in hospital and they stepped in straight away to ensure she received the absolute best she could have had – the communication, care and all round professional service she received was second to none. As a family we can’t say thanks enough for putting our minds at rest that mum was safe and well taken care of. There really aren’t the words to express how grateful we are to Broomfield for being so fantastic.”
