Domiciliary and Personal Care FAQs
What is Domiciliary Care?
Homecare or Domiciliary care is when a person receives help from a carer within the comfort of their own home. It is provided by local authorities or a private provider.
There is a wide range of services that can be provided at home, such as personal care, specialist dementia care, and social and companionship visits.
Who is Domiciliary Care for?
Anyone can receive care at home, with some providers specialising in adults (18+) and others specialising in care for children. However, the most common service users are the elderly, people with disabilities, and people suffering with chronic conditions, both mental and/or physical.
At Broomfield Care, we only look after 18+ individuals.
How Long are Homecare visits at Broomfield Care?
At Broomfield Care, visits typically range from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on your level of needs and the visit type.
However, for some visits, like companionship or transport visits, we make an exception and can offer visits longer than an hour (depending on our capacity).
What are the Benefits to Personal Care from Broomfield Care?
Personal care visits help clients, who struggle with their mental and/or physical health, to maintain their personal hygiene and keep their homes safe and clean too. Visits can be a cost-effective alternative to a care home, and mean clients can continue to live at home and have control over their existing routines.
Do I have to Pay for Personal Care from Broomfield Care?
Broomfield Care is a private company, meaning fees are paid for directly by clients/their families. However, some individuals may be eligible for financial support from the local council, depending on their financial position.
To find out more about our fees, you can read our brochure here.
Is Personal care at home cheaper than a care home?
Receiving personal care at home can be more cost-effective than moving into a care home, and means you can remain living where you love.
Currently, the average cost of a residential care home in the South West of England is £1339 a week, which rises to £1627 a week for a specialist dementia nursing home. In comparison, if you require two hours a day, at Broomfield Care, this will only cost you approximately £392 a week, or £1568 a month.
Does Broomfield Care offer short-term packages?
Yes, at Broomfield care we can accommodate for short-term, respite packages of care. Our carers are available to step in so your regular carers can take a needed break, or even support individuals temporarily whilst recovering from hospital admissions or surgeries.
How do I arrange a care package with Broomfield Care?
Contact us via telephone or email, to discuss your care needs with a member of our friendly team. From there, we can arrange a no-obligation assessment with you and your family to further discuss your needs, goals and any questions you may have, in person.
Our team then take the details discussed with them, and begin creating your personalised care plan.
